Napolcom promotional exam lists 2 EPD cops among topnotchers

The Philippine National Police’s (PNP) promotional exam showed only 4,410 examinees or 34.99 percent passed, out of the 12,602 who took the exam administered by the National Police Commission (Napolcom) last year.

Two police officers of the Eastern Police District (EPD) landed in the top 20 passers – PO1 Daniel Pinca at seventh place with a rating of 83.40 percent and PO2 Ranvier Marco Mercado at the 17th spot with 81.20 percent.

Pinca, 33, serves as a beat patroller at the EPD District Mobile Force Battalion. He is a member of Dalisay-Alab Class 2017 that trained at the National Capital Region Police Office. He hails from Gen. Nakar, Quezon and has a bachelor’s degree in commerce.

Mercado, 32, is from Tacloban, Leyte and a nursing graduate of Centro Escolar University. He passed the nursing board exam and eventually decided to join the PNP.

“I congratulate PO2 Mercado and PO1 Pinca who have proven that we have brilliant and excellent police officers who are at par with the other police officers in other regions. They will become a source of inspiration to their fellow officers who want to aim for professional growth as well,” EPD director Chief Supt. Bernabe Balba said in a statement on Friday.

The two police officers have proven that EPD personnel are not just professional and disciplined in the line of duty but also excellent in terms of paper and pencil test, Balba added.

The results, released last week, showed 1,826 passed the Police Officer Exam and 2,189 hurdled the Senior Police Officer Exam. Those who passed the Inspector and Superintendent Exam number 312 and 83, respectively.

According to Napolcom, a total of 3,742 or 11.37 percent out of the 32,912 examinees also passed the PNP Entrance Exam.

The PNP Entrance Exam is a requirement for initial appointment to the rank of PO1. The exams were conducted in designated schools in Metro Manila and other testing centers nationwide last October 21.#
