PAF trains rescuers from 6 Antique towns
The Philippine Air Force (PAF) 505th Search and Rescue Group conducted a 16-day intensive training on search and rescue (SAR) operations for Antique’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and rescue volunteers.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officer Broderick Train said the local office requested for the training to improve the skills of the local rescuers.
“We requested for the PAF because they have the capabilities and are highly trained,” Train said on Moday.
He said the trainees come from six municipalities in the province: Caluya, Libertad, Sibalom, Patnongon, San Jose de Buenavista and Anini-y.
“There are 42 trainees who are able to finish their training,” he added.
The training, which started last August 27 and ends on September 11, covered SAR operations in high angle, confined space, collapse street, water, swift water, vehicle extrication and pre-hospital treatment.
The PAF trainers are Technical Sergeants Alvin Joy Bacaltos and Luther Melo, and Staff Sergeants Joey Sanchez and Dancon Pascual.
Train said several venues were used depending on the requirements of the training, such as the Tuno River in Tibiao town for the water and swift water SAR.#
