3K TESDA scholarships for MILF, MNLF members

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has allocated 3,000 scholarship slots for members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).

TESDA director general Guiling Mamondiong said the scholarships make the MILF and MNLF members eligible to avail of the agency’s free skills training programs.

Mamondiong said the free skills training will help members of both groups to improve their lives by opening up jobs and livelihood opportunities to them and enabling them to participate in the government’s development programs.

“The target beneficiaries are the MNLF and MILF in ARMM (Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) communities to empower and uplift their lives along with others belonging in the marginalized sectors through employment and livelihood opportunities,” Mamondiong said.

“This is the first time we have allotted scholarship slots for them,” TESDA deputy director general Alvin Feliciano said on Tuesday.

According to Feliciano, this initiative aims to help uplift the lives of members of the MILF and MNLF by providing them free training and assessment.

“We want them to get jobs or livelihood, and also to make them active participants of various government programs,” he added.

Those who will avail of the scholarship can choose from courses such as agriculture, automotive, construction, tourism, metals and engineering, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration, semiconductor, electronics, furniture and fixtures, garment and textile, health, and social services.

These courses can be taken within 40 days or less, according to TESDA.

The agency eyes 1,000 MILF and MNLF members from Lanao del Sur, another 1,000 from Maguindanao, and 1,000 from Sulu, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, and Zamboanga to benefit from this program. The scholarship also covers training support fund.

To avail of the scholarship, members of both groups should visit the TESDA office in their areas and get enlisted in the programs offered. TESDA has offices in Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga, and Basilan.

Meanwhile, TESDA had also provided scholarships for communist rebel returnees.

“We have offered the same program to the members of the CPP-NPA (Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army),” Feliciano said.#
