Army claims victory against enemies of state
The Philippine Army (PA) has claimed victory in the war against the enemies of the state following the conduct of “unrelenting conduct of security operations” in the countryside.
In a statement, the PA said the operational success resulted from President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to finish-off communist terrorists and other threat groups to pave the way for peace and development in the country, particularly in Mindanao.
Since the cancellation of the peace talks last year, a total of 6,709 armed communist-terrorists and sympathizers have surrendered and 288 assorted firearms were recovered.
Also, 96 members of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group, Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and Maute have surrendered,
According to Army officials, the extension of martial law in Mindanao contributed to the success of military operations.
They said various Army major units have succeeded in recovering loose firearms in 2018, with the help of local government officials.
“It is also worthy to note that during the entire implementation of Martial Law, there was no single incident of abuse reported by Army soldiers,” the PA said.
According to the latest survey of the Social Weather Station, the Army gained +72 net satisfaction rating, with a one point decrease compared to the 2015 survey result conducted by the Club Media Asia, Inc.
It also registered a record breaking 9 points increase on its Net Trust Rating from only +75 in 2015 to +84 this year.
The PA gained the highest trust rating in Mindanao at +87 compared with the National Capital Region at +85, Balance Luzon at +83, and Visayas at +81. Notably, the highest number of surrenderees came from Mindanao.
Lt. Col. Louie Villanueva, Army spokesperson, said the PA, as the main force provider of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, supported Duterte’s goal to totally eliminate CPP-NPA-NDF terrorists and other threat groups in the country.
“Due to intensified military operations, there was a significant increase in the number of surrenderees particularly from the CPP-NPA terrorists,” Villanueva said.
Meanwhile, Army Chief Lt. Gen. Rolando Joselito Bautista assured the troops that they will be provided with all combat essentials for them. He also lauded the troops for their dedication in serving and protecting the people.#
