PCG rescues boat captain in Camarines Norte
The Coast Guard Station (CGS) in Camarines Norte on Monday rescued the captain of a capsized motorboat on the day he went missing in the waters off Barangay Masalong-salong, Mercedes, Camarines Norte on April 1
Rey Caro, a 48-year-old boat captain of capsized motorbanc6, was found by responding CGS personnel of who conducted search and rescue operations in the area.
Initial inquiry showed the boat with 20 persons onboard departed Barangay Caringo Island en route to Barangay Masalong-salong in Mercedes town to attend a wedding when they suddenly encountered engine trouble while transiting the place.
The boat became unstable and listed on the port side before it capsized. Some passengers managed to swim to the nearest shoreline of Barangay Masalong-salong, also in Mercedes, while others were rescued by a passing motorboat. Only the boat captain was reported as missing.
A Coast Guard team then patrolled the shoreline of Barangay Masalong-salong and found when Caro waving at them at about 50 meters away from their position.
Caro was brought to the house of one of the passengers for medical assistance. All 20 passengers were rescued and are in good physical condition.
