PNP honors SAF 44, sets commemorative bike ride
The Philippine National Police will launch a commemorative bike ride on Sunday to pay tribute to the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos who died in a mission to neutralize Malaysian terrorist and bomb-maker Zulkipli Bin Hir alias “Marwan” in 2015.
Director Eduardo Serapio Mayote Garado, the newly-appointed head of the PNP Directorate for Police Community Relations (DPCR), said the event would kick off at 4 a.m. at Luneta Park, Manila on January 28.
The route of the bike ride, dubbed “The Commemoration Ride for the Gallant SAF 44,” will pass through the SAF Headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City, going to PNP SAF Training School in Fort Sto. Domingo, Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.
The finish line will be at the PNP Academy (PNPA) in Silang, Cavite.
Garado said the National Bikers Organization would be joining the PNP in this activity.
Police personnel will hold a wreath-laying ceremony during the culminating activity at the SAF 44 Monument in the PNPA complex.
Garado said all PNP units are invited to participate in the activity.
He added that the presence and visibility of uniformed personnel on patrol (mobile and foot) should be maximized.
“The objective of this activity is to integrate all the efforts for the advocacy campaign in grateful recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by the Gallant SAF 44 and to commemorate their heroism. It also aims to generate popular support in promoting enduring peace in society,” he also said. #
